2018 could arguably be called the Year of the Sequel, with new offerings from the Star Wars, Jurassic, Marvel, Fantastic Beasts, Predator and X-Men franchises all being released. However, there are a few surprises within this list, including a Queen biography and at least one big film for the kids.
Avengers: Infinity War – May
Avengers: Infinity War is the 19th film from the Marvel Cinematic World series. In this film the Avengers will join forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy in order to battle the baddie Thanos.
Solo: A Star Wars Story – May
The second standalone anthology film after Rogue One was released in 2016, Solo is set before the time of A New Hope and looks at the early story of Hans Solo and Chewbacca. This will come out in the summer, following on from the predictable success of this year’s The Last Jedi.
Deadpool 2: The Sequel – June
If we’re going to have a new Avengers film, it makes sense that we’re going to have a new X-Men film too. At the time of writing, the Deadpool sequel still doesn’t have an officially released title: but this 12th instalment of the X-Men series is still being hotly anticipated by fans of the original Deadpool and X-Men films.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom – June
The second Jurassic World film and the fifth Jurassic film altogether, in this movie both Chris Pratt and Jeff Goldblum return as a dormant volcano comes alive and threatens to see off the dinosaur population.
Ant Man and the Wasp – July
As if one Marvel film wasn’t enough for 2018, we also have Ant Man and the Wasp due out in July. This film follows on from Captain America: Civil War and sees the popular Ant Man character team up with the Wasp.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix – November
Yes: another X-men flick, too! In this film Jean Gray becomes lured by darker forces and the X-men have to choose between their friend and world safety.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it Ralph 2 – November
It’s been six years since the first and much-loved Wreck-it Ralph film. This unlikely hero returns to our screens for a new generation of children, and this time breaks the internet by somehow getting in it.
Fantastic Beasts; The Crimes of Grindelwald – November
The second film from the Fantastic Beasts series set in Harry Potter’s magical world is due out in 2018. In this film, links with the Harry Potter story are revealed as we discover more about Grindelwald.
It’s been 30 years year since the original Predator was released. This classic sci-fi horror returns to our screens with its fourth instalment (set between the second and third films), which promises to be as good as the last three.
Bohemian Rhapsody – December
Queen may be immortalised on stage but not thus far in film. The film follows the band’s heyday, chronicling its story up to the Live Aid concert in 1985.
